This Marrakech to Fes desert tour is the classic way to cross Morocco in 3 days. First, you follow the kasbah road over the High Atlas to the Dades Valley. Then, you walk through Todra Gorge and ride a camel into the Erg Chebbi dunes. Finally, you drive north through the Ziz Valley and the Middle Atlas to Fes.

Your driver meets you at your riad or hotel in Marrakech. First, you cross the High Atlas by the Tizi n’Tichka pass at 2,260 meters. Next, you explore the kasbah of Ait Ben Haddou. Then, you pass Ouarzazate, the Skoura palm grove and the Rose Valley. In the evening, you reach your riad in Boumalne Dades for dinner. About 7 hours of driving.
After breakfast, you see the “monkey fingers” rocks of the Dades Valley. Next, you walk along the river in Todra Gorge, between towering limestone cliffs. Then, you pass Tinjdad and Erfoud on the way to Merzouga. In the late afternoon, you ride a camel into the Erg Chebbi dunes for sunset. Dinner and Berber drums at the camp end the day. About 4.5 hours of driving.
Wake early for sunrise over the dunes. After breakfast, you visit Rissani and follow the Ziz Valley north. After lunch in Midelt, you cross the Tizi n’Talghemt pass at 1,907 meters and the cedar forest of Azrou, where wild Barbary macaques live. Finally, you pass Ifrane and reach Fes by early evening.
