This Sahara desert trek is for travelers who want more than one night in the dunes. Starting in Merzouga, you walk with a Berber guide and camels carrying the luggage, crossing high dunes and flat desert to quiet camps in the Erg Chebbi. It can be added to any of our desert tours, for example the 5 day tour from Marrakech, or booked on its own with a transfer.
Day-by-Day Itinerary
Day 1: Merzouga – Into the Erg Chebbi
Meet your guide in Merzouga in the afternoon and walk or ride camels into the dunes for about 3 hours, to a quiet camp for sunset, dinner and drums by the fire.
Day 2: Across the dunes – Nomad family
A longer day crossing the dunes and the flat desert, with a visit to a nomad family for tea and a picnic lunch in the shade. About 5 hours of walking. Night in a small camp under the stars.

Do I walk or ride a camel?
Both: you can walk and ride the camels in turns.
Is walking in the dunes hard?
It is moderate; walking on sand is slower, so the guide keeps a gentle pace.
What is the best time?
October to April; summer is too hot for walking in the desert.
How do I get to Merzouga?
Combine the trek with one of our desert tours or ask for a private transfer.
Is it private?
Yes, only your group with your guide and camels.
